Frozen Findings: Arendelle Castle in the Frozen III teaser trailer🏰

The new teaser trailer for Frozen III from D23 2026 has brought some new much-needed content to the Frozen fandom! Including new concept art featuring Anna and Kristoff’s wedding venue! Together with footage from the trailer, it becomes clear that the new movie will bring some big changes to the look and layout of Arendelle Castle.

Even though the available content is very limited so far, we can already conclude there has been a complete re-design of the royal garden outside the southern castle wall. You might remember this area as rather featureless and barren in the wide shots in the previous movies:

Up-close however, the royal garden is a fairly detailed area with footpaths, fountains, hedges and a prominent willow tree (different from THE willow tree next to the castle gates). This is the place we see in Frozen where Anna interacts with the ducklings:

In concept art for Frozen II, you can get a pretty good idea of the layout of the garden. This is where part of the deleted song “Get this right” was supposed to take place. It’s a shame we never really got to see the place in detail in any of the movies.

There is also a scene in the book Anna Finds a Friend where 8-year-old Anna climbs a tall oak tree in the garden:

The garden seen in a few Frozen comics:

In the new teaser trailer, we can see that the area has been given a lot of attention in the large-scale castle model. It now has a completely new look and function as part of the preparations for Anna and Kristoff’s wedding!

The rather small garden-area has been extended to the south with some type of dock construction, a small square and seating arrangements for the wedding guests plus numerous cherry trees arranged in (approx.) a 16 x 8 rectangular pattern. A new pier extends into the fjord, possibly to serve as a departure point for a sea voyage? Maybe Kristanna’s honeymoon?!
Some big changes have also been made to the southern half of the town where the wall and lighthouse that used to extend into the fjord have been shrunk to allow for this shot towards the ocean:

This change was likely done for artistic reasons and doesn’t necessarily mean changes to the wall and cliff face were made in-universe between movies. Or perhaps the earth giants did it. Also, notice how the northern lights appear in the SOUTH! No wonder Elsa had to go and check out this mysterious event!
You can see the previous layout of the southern wall and lighthouse in this shot from Frozen Fever:

We also got this shot very similar to the trailer in the scrapped Frozen II prologue (from Into the Unknown: Making Frozen II):

In a blink and you’ll miss it-moment, we also noted that the bronze statue of young Agnarr and Iduna appears to be MISSING from its pedestal in the Royal Place! Instead, the flag pole from the start of Frozen II is back. Did the animators forget to add the statue to the large-scale model of the town? 😭

Of course, as the movie is still in development, additional changes could be made to fix errors like these so it remains to be seen what the final Frozen III-look of the castle and town will be like. We’ll know in late 2027!
Some other details worth noting: The castle has a new set of crocus shields on the walls close to the main gate (RIP the old province crests) with a new spring-inspired colour theme:

@fuzzyoncehearted made this beautiful recreation!

We also mourn the loss of the willow tree. However, we like to imagine that instead of cutting it down, the sisters called on the earth giants to have it relocated.
