2025-01-05 19:20:53 FrozenHeart “Remember when we were little, mother and father would tell us stories of mythical creatures around the world?” Anna smiled, she gazed outside of their parents’ bedroom window. The Aurora borealis have long faded from the starry sky, leaving the village of Arendelle enshroulded by the darkness before dusk. Cozy and calming yet silent and empty, as if something vital and dear was stripped away from the town.
“In this very same room mother told us the story of the Huldrefolk, and how some thought they were thiefs stealing your treasured belongings.” She turned and looked at Elsa sitting beside her on their parents’ bed, her braid as tidy as ever rest neatly against her neck, icy blue eyes gazed with resolution to the distance, shoulders straight and hands folded neatly on her laps, every part of her radiated elegance and determination, the perfect magical Queen to lead Arendelle to a bright future, just like Aren from the saga of old.
“I said oh no, what if they stole Elsa away from me? I’ll defend my sister with all I got!” Anna waved her fists playfully in the air, ” And then I hugged you really tight ‘til you said you can’t breath! ‘I won’t let anyone take you away from me!’ I said.”
“Looks like I stayed true to my words, now the gates are open, and we’ll always be together…” Anna leaned toward her sister’s shoulder. For some reason, Elsa’s shoulder wasn’t warm and soft like before, but airy as Gale, and she did not lean back against Anna. In fact she hardly moved, it was as if she was frozen in time. But Anna didn’t care, she leaned harder into Elsa, wanting to feel her sister’s warmth. She didn’t know why she wanted her sisters affection so much tonight, they were cuddling together everyday since Elsa resolved the fault of the past in the Enchanted Forest and returned victorious, right? But no matter how hard she tilted her body, Elsa seemed to be just beyond her reach, but she was right there! That’s her sister, someone that would never abandon her, right?
The sun broke above the horizon from the ocean, the first ray of day slicing through Arendelle like how Revolute first cut into the earth that is Arenfjord, shattering the drowsy dark. The light mercilessly advanced, leaving no room for dreaming. Anna raised her head desperately to seek her sister’s attention. But there was no Elsa, no sister, no legendary savior, just a lonely girl in an empty room trying to hold on to her illusions that was snuffled by the piercing truth.
She collapsed on the bed, tears broke out like streams, darkening the white blanket like how Olaf’s snow dimmed and melted.
No, Elsa did not make it back from Ahtohallan, she sacrificed herself to free Arendelle from its control. The moment was fresh and sharp as an icicle in Anna’s mind as Elsa gave her that sad smile from afar then plundged into the icy abyss that was the river of memories. They didn’t even had a chance to say goodbye.
Now Anna was all alone, but she must carry on the duty of Queen less Elsa’s effort would all be in vain. “Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let it show…” She muttered. How sarcastic, the words she would rather never hear from Elsa again now coming out of her own mouth. She wiped away tears and adjusted her dress. It was a long night, but she have a longer day ahead, and she must carry on for Elsa, and for all people and rulers of Arendelle.
The Queen of Arendelle stood up and turned to leave, the morning light painfully bright in the all-too-vacant bedroom.
