2020-08-17 14:26:59 FrozenHeart @安邦定国 从那个你叫我看的观后感来看,Iduna不是非要是第五灵的,没错,她是crucial link, but that didn’t mean she pocessed any magical powers. In the original essay, It was described that Iduna was bridging the gap between the worlds, and trying to disprove misconceptions, but that doesn’t mean it is in a magical sense. Note the next line in the paragraph, this task fall to Elsa and Anna, but Iduna paved the way. Mind, that there wasn’t such a need to “bridging the gap between the worlds, and trying to disprove misconceptions” before the battle, and I believe Iduna was the first that tried to accomplish this, not because the spirits or anyone wanted her to do it, it was much more likely her own desire to mend the broken relationship between the lands that motivated her. And it was pretty obvious that in the end, she failed in her quest, and the “bridging” was not successful. From the present evidences we have, it may be interpreted in 2 ways:

  1. Iduna was the fifth spirit since she was little, and her absence resulted in the Four spirits punishing all Northuldras including the fifth spirit herself, and leaving the job of “bridging” to her daughters.
  2. Iduna was not the fifth spirit and there wasn’t one around for ages. But she made great efforts trying to mend the broken relationships. The spirits knew she cannot accomplish this on her own, thus they gifted her daughter with magic so that Iduna’s effort will not be completely wasted. The first obviously don’t sound very wholesome, and it goes against a lot of our previous analysis, such as my”truth theory”, “Elsa’s mental activities before she was frozen”and many more. If this interpretation is true, then the spirits would be vicious, self-serving beings that cares about their own interests only. And from the act of forgiving Arendelle after Elsa stopped the flood, we may clearly see that is not the case, otherwise the spirits would not have given Elsa the chance to save Arendelle. Besides, the spirits represent nature, right? It certainly wouldn’t do for a Disney story to portray mother nature as unforgiving and self-serving. Let’s look at the second interpretation. Firstly, nothing go against the original text, she doesn’t have to be the fifth spirit to start with for her to be the “crucial link ” between two worlds. The two worlds mentioned here is clearly Northuldra and Arendelle, the two groups of people with different worldviews, and Iduna may trying to be the bridge in the cultural and mental sense, instead of magical or physical sense. And this do not have to be a mission forced onto her by the spirits, it can be easily explained by the character’s psychological changes alone. Furthermore, consider my “theory of two bridges”, to be the fifth spirit, you need to pocess magic to actually be able to understand what it would mean to be a spirit of nature, and it appeared that Iduna didn’t have a magic of her own, or it would certainly be mentioned. Thus although being really friendly with gale, she would not be able to “connect” with them like Elsa did. And I have explained in my theory that Being a bridge between the people of the two worlds don’t necessarily mean you are the fifth spirit, you also need to be the bridge between”the magic of nature and humans”
